The best way to improve English skill

The best way to improve English skill

The best way to improve your English skill is to explore yourself into an environment full of English. For example, you could choose to move to an English-speaking country to live there for a while. Despite moving to an English-speaking country costs a lot, it really helps you to enhance comprehensive English skills, such as listening, speaking, reading and writing. You will have lots of opportunities forcing yourself to use English, and your English learning becomes very practical instead of just learning from textbook. You also can learn real English which local people use every day rather than old-fashion English. For example, before I moved to Canada, I had learned English for several years, but I didn’t have chance to use English even though I already had basic English knowledge. And after graduated from school, I seldom had an opportunity to practice my English, then I forgot everything I learned from school. Sine I lived Canada, I have been making progress in English a lot. Because living Canada helps me to reminder my long-term memory about English, and gives me many opportunities to practice.

I am a ESL writer

I have learned how to write since I learned about literacy. I enjoy writing, not only because writing is a good way to communicate with others but also because writing helps me understand myself. My writing career stage could be divided roughly into four stages. First stage, I enjoyed writing any composition to tell readers (teachers and classmates) about my daily life during my junior and high school life in Taiwan. Second Stage, I enjoyed writing reports or presentation’s contents to explain my opinion more deeply during university. Third stage, I enjoyed business writing and did reports after I started my job career in Taiwan. I always thought that I was a good writer until 10 months ago. Now I am in my fourth stage.

Ten months ago, I immigrated to Canada, then I found writing in English is really difficult for me even though I had learned how to write a short paragraph when I was in high school. At that time, all English I learned just for meeting university entrance requirement. After I passed that exam, I never wrote anything in English. Now in order to improve my English for communicating with people, I decided to go back to school to learn English writing. I am taking English writing and grammar courses in Canada to pick up some grammars which I learned before, to learn some academic wring skills like pre-writing, drafting, editing and revising.  At the same time I also learned writing improvement must come with improving my reading skills. In my school, I also learned some basic reading skills like reading topic sentences, scanning etc. Through learning these skills from school, I rebuilt up my confidence in writing, and I am eager to learn more. Then I found this course on coursera. I am excited to learn more about academic writing and expect myself to be a good English writer too.

Do you agree or disagree Canadian are law-abiding and they have an orderly society?

Canada is a well-developed country and has a very established law system, and most people around the world think Canada is an orderly society and Canadian obey their law decidedly. In my point of view, I mainly agree that Canadian are disciplined, they obey any law of Canada, for example they follow transportation requlations and when they go to the counter of groceries store or coffee shop, they spontaneously line up. However portion of them are not. For example I still can see some drivers and pedestrians don’t follow Alberta transportation requlations, and some teenagers steel liquor and wine from liquor store. The reason might depend on which city or community they live, their family structure, their education background.

One of the most important people in my life

Grace is one of the influential people in my life. I have known her over six years since I joined her church group. She has influenced me for several ways.First, she plays an important role in my career choice, when I am confronted with job change. Second, she taught me a lot of working skills such as how to coordinate、learning skill and how to be a team leader, when we hold church activities together. Third, she is my spiritual teacher. I learned how to strike balance in normal life and church life by observing her. Although She is a career woman, she is willing to take care of the needs of church. She spends time to do church affairs, shepherd young sisters and preaches gospel to her colleagues. I expect myself to follow her value of life.
